Jayanti Memorial Trust with the Technical support from Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Center conducted the free heart camp at Tansen, Palpa. Tansen is a Municipality and the administrative center of Palpa Districtin the "hills" of the western part of Nepall. It is located on the highway between Butwal and Pokhara, on the crest of the Mahabharat Range or Lesser Himalaya overlooking the valley of the Kaligandaki River to the north. Not only is the Tansen a picturesque hill town but also is the head-quarter with an improved quality of life of the people through high-quality primary health care and training in primary health care. However, receiving the adequate cardiac care is still a challenge in the Palpa District.
The camp was held in two different locations by a team led by Prof. Dr. Bhagwan Koirala. On 10th of May, the free cardiac camp was conducted in River Valley Boarding School, Damkada. During the camp, almost 250 students were screened for any cardiac ailments, out of which 15 students further undergone ECG Test. On 11th and 12th of May, the free heart camp was conducted in Dharmachakra Bihar, Ason Tole, Tansen. With a large number of patients attending to get their treatment done, the camp was received very well, starting from 8:00 AM to till 9:00 PM.
1. A total number of patients receiving medicines for free of cost – 960.
2. The medicines provided were – Cardiac and Non-cardiac medicines.
All in all, the camp was received very well with numbers of patients attending the camp. Although the healthcare in Palpa has improved, the cardiac care, however, is still insufficient, provided the number of the cardiac patients found. The locals and the Municipality were grateful for the camp and service provided during the camp. Also, cardiac patients with financial hardship and thus in need of further financial support for their tertiary treatment were provided the health schemes. We believe this has made possible to reduce the financial burden on the patient’s health checkup and treatment in greater extent. The camp was followed by felicitation program by Municipality of Tansen, PABSON and Lions Club of Palpa.
On this note, we would like to sincerely extend our gratitude to Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular & Transplant Centre, Members from Tansen Nagarpalika -2, Pabson (Palpa), Lions Club of Shreenagar and Quest Pharmaceuticals for the support. Quest Pharmaceuticals have been lending their helping hand to those in need and this time too they did not fail to do so. They extended their support by distributing cardiac, diabetic drugs; sugar test for free of cost. We would also like to thank the University of Colorado and TSF for the financial support provided to conduct this camp. The camp would not have been a success without a combined effort from Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular & Transplant Centre MCVTC, local partners from Palpa and Quest Pharmaceuticals.
